Boy has it been a while… I would like to officially bash the fluids in my bronchial tubes for blocking my airways for a good week – you’re the worst. The past two weeks have been filled with coughs, naps, books about fashion and fascism, cold medicine, doctors visits, home improvement TV shows, and nebulizers. It sounds entertaining but it was oh-so monotonous. Needless to say, I was ecstatic to have woken up from a full night’s sleep this morning and was even more excited to leave my house.

I’ve talked about Poshmark before but nothing does it justice. It’s utterly addicting in a good way – there’s nothing wrong with selling clothes, making space in your closet and making money! While I sell a lot more than I buy, I have purchased a few gems on the app, including these BDG flare jeans. Not only are they totally on trend but they’re comfortable – they’re pull on!! Like what?!? The last time I can remember wearing flare jeans was in middle school, in sixth grade to be exact. They were uber faded and were always paired with coral tennis shoes. TBH it makes me sick to my stomach. While the dark wash could really be paired with anything, I reached for my new wedges and a chambray shirt. To keep it simple, I layered two white tops underneath and left the chambray button down unbuttoned.

I promise I’ll keep up the blog game for the rest of the school year – I promise.

Peace n Blessings

Black & Blue

Shirt: Wet Seal (available HERE!) | Dress (worn as skirt): Brandy Melville Italy | Boots: Sam Edelman

Today finally felt a little bit like spring; we reached a balmy 38˚ here in New York! I left my jacket at home when my sister and I went out walking to take these photos (which I completely regretted about 2 minutes into our expedition), and while it was windy, the sun was bright and shining. This little taste of warm weather is definitely getting me excited for spring break which starts next weekend! This top just came in the mail from Wet Seal and I could not be happier with it! I have a slight obsession with elephants (and apparently black/white/blue color combinations) so I felt like I needed this top in my closet. The fabric is so comfortable and it is a great transition piece for changing seasons.

SOTD: “Air Balloon” Lily Allen – When I first heard this song it annoyed me but the more it kept appearing on my 8tracks playlists the more I grew to love it. Go take a listen!

Trainor

Sweater: Poshmark | Jacket: Forever 21 | Pants: Abercrombie & Fitch | Shoes: c/o Wet Seal

(photography by Kathryn McSherry)

I’m not sure what came over me today. Before running out the door to take these photos I had palazzo pants and this sweater on (a total Meg outfit if I do say so myself), but at the last minute I decided to change into something more… sporty? These A&F pants are my designated interview pants and I never thought they would make their way onto the blog, but here they are. I paired them with this new sweater that I got via Poshmark. I bought some new jeans from THIS closet and Jasemine threw in this sweater for free!! It was insanely windy this morning (and now it’s insanely snowy as per usual) so I threw on this varsity jacket.

On another rote, I feel like it’s about time that I talked about Meghan Trainor’s debut album, Title. It is a total feel-good album and I’m genuinely obsessed with the whole thing. My favorite songs include “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” ft. John Legend, “Mr. Almost”, “My Selfish Heart” and “Title”. Warning: these songs are insanely catchy and you will be singing them everywhere you go.

Honey I’m Good

I have never been a cold temperature girl but this weekend has solidified my hatred of winter. I have officially decided I only enjoy winter when there are snow flurries during history class. That’s it. It’s also extremely difficult to dress practically and still look good in the winter. I layered up like a mad woman and traded my tights for thick leggings and socks but I still was cold. This scarf was my only savior during this shoot but having a warm neck didn’t magically make my whole body warm, too. I give a lot of credit to all the people at New York Fashion Week this week who still manage to look good in this weather. They all deserve awards or cookies or medals or something. So, ahem, Mother Nature? You can make the temperatures warmer now. It’s time. Even 35° would be great.

SOTD: “Honey I’m Good” by Andy Grammer. Let’s all jam to this song and pretend we’re good and not freezing.

Mom Jeans and Stripy Things

Jeans: BDG via Urban Outfitters | Sweater: H&M | Boots: c/o Wet Seal | Phone Case: Etsy

There is seriously nothing better than something you buy on sale online fitting perfectly when it arrives at your door. I have been on the hunt for affordable high waisted boyfriend jeans for what feels like years so when I saw these on sale for just $20 on Urban Outfitters’ website I had to take the risk and order them. When I say these jeans are more comfortable than my favorite high waisted jeggings I mean it; there’s just something about the high rise boyfriend jean combination that is heavenly. I paired these BDG “mom jeans” with my favorite striped sweater (because the best time to wear a striped sweater is all the time) and my new “liquid metal” phone case from Etsy.

SOTD: “The Wire” by HAIM has been on repeat for the past two weeks. It’s such a catchy song and I’m absolutely obsessed.

Back On Board

Dress: Forever 21 | Boots: Sam Edelman

(photography by Kathryn McSherry)

I have a problem with buying (and wearing) seasonally inappropriate clothing. Whilst being as touristy as possible in Times Square yesterday, I stopped into Forever 21 to take a break from the 9° wind chills. I perused the winter coats and the plethora of sweaters- items that would be perfectly appropriate- but what did I walk out with? This dress: a cutout back, baby doll, printed, summer dress. Oh, I also have that “I must wear everything I buy the minute that I buy it” syndrome, which is particularly difficult with my rose-summer-colored glasses problem too. All I can say is that it’s good that I’ve come back on board with turtle necks. I would definitely have frostbite if I was still as anti-turtleneck as I have been for the past 16+ years.

SOTD: “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” by Meghan Trainor. Seriously, go listen to this song. I get 50’s vibes and Sam Smith love song vibes from this song all at the same time, not to mention that John Legend features on the track. It’s a song made in heaven.

Peace n Blessings

ASOS

When Natalie invited me to team up with her and ASOS for an ASOS Holiday Collection post, I was beyond thrilled. #1 I love Natalie’s blog and I was so excited to be partnering up with her for a fun collaboration, and #2 I love ASOS. I haven’t actually bought a lot from the UK based brand, but I find myself surfing their website for style inspiration all the time. Their models are always dressed to a T, hair and all. After scouring their site for hours upon end and basically picking out eighty possible looks, I chose this bardot neckline top, this marsala (go color of the year!!) scalloped skirt and this headscarf. I originally planned to wear frilly socks and a striped headband with this look, but it reminded me a little too much of my ridiculously preppy days in middle school, so the headband took the back seat. Even without the stripe/scallop combo, I still felt like I needed to edge up my outfit. I threw on some tights, leather boots (because there is nothing less middle school prep than moto boots) and a headscarf with a moon and sun print. This seriously is one of my favorite looks, and not just for around the holidays; I can easily see myself wearing this skirt with a peasant-top in the spring and a chunky sweater in the fall.

Make sure you check out Natalie’s lovely blog and her ASOS Holiday Collection look, it’s adorable and I’m totally obsessed with her velvet/leather combination! (p.s. we picked out very similar looks (off the shoulder, red and black, boots) without even knowing it… so weird!!)natalie

SOTD: you all should go listen to Mat Kearney’s “Heartbeat” – it’s basically all I’ve been listening to lately and ASOS definitely makes my heart beat…

Peace n Blessings

Ath-Leisure In Twenty FIT-teen

IMG_5693IMG_5765  IMG_5704 IMG_5698IMG_5759

Leggings: MPG | Sweater: Ann Taylor | Shoes: c/o Wet Seal | Bracelet: Lokai

2015 has already gained the title of twenty fit-teen. The first two weeks of January have been filled with diet adds on television and folks running to the gym with fitness epiphanies. This does not surprise me one bit; it happens every year. But unlike other years, athletic wear has been infiltrating the fashion scene. This fad “lifestyle” has been dubbed ath-leisure wear. Basically, it’s workout-esque clothing you put on, paired with a cardigan or something leisurely, to look like you’ve just left the gym. I’m not sure how I feel about this whole “let’s pretend we’ve worked out” idea, but designers sure are loving it. Nothing sums up the trend better than the Alexander Wang x H&M collaboration; the mix of spandexes, sweatshirts and mesh was just genius. With Elie Tahari announcing the upcoming release of his own ath-leisure collection and other companies specializing in updated athletic wear, I take back my “this will be a one time thing” prediction from when the AWxHM collab was released.

Not going to lie, I’ve been wearing this all day. It’s comfortable and warm (unlike my last post where I basically got frostbite). And if I really wanted to, I could take off this sweater and workout. I completely understand the mix of athletic clothes and leisure clothes, but I’m not sure it’s a good fit for me. Coming from someone who mixes leisure and fitness more like 75% leisure and 25% fitness (as opposed to 50/50 like ath-leisure calls for), it doesn’t quite make sense for me to lounge around in fitness gear. The idea is great, but I don’t think I’ll be sporting it again anytime soon…. get it? SPORTing it?

Page 2. A day spent drinking lots of tea, lounging in my new flannel, and denying the fact that it is still winter. As I walked around Woodbury Commons yesterday, shivering regardless of my four very warm layers, I was completely drawn to this PacSun skirt. While this is not the most weather appropriate outfit, I thought it was a good one to kick off 2015 on the blog. It’s fun and colorful, yet sophisticated at the same time. And can we talk about the sleeves on this top? Bell sleeves never felt, or looked, so good. So here’s to the next 363 days of 2015 – may they be as colorful and sophisticated (and warm?) as this first post of the new year!

Music: We’ve all heard the top 100 songs of the year countdown by now (and if you’re like me, five or six times over), so this is a new top 100 playlist for your ears: the top 100 indie songs of 2014. It’s seriously fantastic. Go listen HERE.

Blogmas: Day 3

Manhattan

Merry Eve of Christmas Eve! Yesterday I spent the day tootling around Manhattan and snapping pictures with my gals, Norah and Landy. We visited the tree at Rockefeller Center, found the amazing waterfall wall thing along the way (at the McGraw Hill textbook offices, of all places), stopped for lunch at an amazing little Italian café, and then hit up Times Square for some last minute Christmas shopping. I can’t remember the last time I took part in such touristy activities, because who wants to look like a tourist? Nonetheless, I really enjoyed getting to be a tourist in my own city.

And about this whole turtleneck thing… I’ve seen all of my favorite bloggers rock a turtleneck or two, so I decided it was time I try. I have had a stigma against turtlenecks since I was (somewhat) forced to wear them as a child. Maybe it was because of the heinous patterns or the neck constriction, but I just really could not stand them. Alas, I wore one all day yesterday. All day. I tried my best to make it look WeWoreWhat / Views of Now-esque, New York City girl, blah blah blah… The leather definitely helped, but I’m not sure if I could pull it off again.

I hope you have enjoyed days ONE and TWO of Blogmas so far! It’s been surprisingly fun writing every day, but I’m not sure I could do it every day for a month (let alone vlog every day of the month… props to you vlogmas people). So enjoy it while it lasts because it ends tomorrow!

Peace n Blessings
