Merry, Merry

Merry Christmas! I was expecting – and looking forward to – a cold New York Christmas, snow flurries and all. A 72˚ Christmas Eve is far from that. It was a rainy, cloudy day yet warm at the same time. And don’t get me wrong, I’ll take this weather over freezing temperatures any day. But when I say “any day” I mean “any-day-but-Christmas-or-Christmas-Eve”.

This top has become one of my favorites. It’s a wrap top, which is more confusing to maneuver than I originally thought it would be, and the material is incredibly soft. What I didn’t think through was how impractical a black long sleeve top would be for most of the year in southern California. Oh well. I’ll suffer for it anyway. This skirt is also one of my favorites (and has seen a McSherry Christmas before). It’s a thick material yet light enough to wear in warm weather like this. It also satisfies my love of black and white patterned anything. These flats were my Black Friday purchase from Steve Madden in Las Vegas. I wish I could wear them every day of my life, but they look a bit really odd with my mom jeans. Believe me, I’ve tried. Sigh.

A non-Christmasy song, because the season is basically over (double sigh) – “Way Back When” by Kodaline. A beautiful, beautiful song.

Peace n Blessings and Merry, Merry

Christmas Layering (And Blogmas?)

Blogmas: Day 1

Four days. There are only four days until Christmas. By the time this is posted, there will basically be three days until Christmas. Crunch time. On the other hand, I think I am going to take these four days to start Blogmas. (For those who don’t know, Vlogmas: A Christmas celebration that mainly Youtubers participate in by vlogging (or video blogging) everyday until Christmas). I may be 21 days late and I may not be a vlogger, but Blogmas is taking over the blogging world (and my mind). So here goes my first day of Blogmas, I’ll see y’all tomorrow with a Christmas music post!

I wore this layered look to a family Christmas Party last weekend. I had just gotten this skirt from a family friend and was dying for an opportunity to wear it! I wanted to pair the black and white pattern with a colored top to be a little more Christmasy. My chunky emerald and maroon sweaters epically failed at the task, but this maroon H&M sweater worked… well, kind of. The cutout back was too cold and too busy with the skirt, but after playing around with flowy-tops, I came across my trusty LF tank (which I wear all too often). The mix of lengths and layers worked out perfectly and I am totally inspired to play around with unexpected layering more often.

Oh and can we talk about my dad’s pants? I mean you can’t get more festive than that.

Like Real People Do

If you couldn’t tell from the overwhelming presence of black and white in this post, I have found my new favorite color combination. It’s just so crisp and simple (and it makes print mixing oh so easy). Speaking of favorites, this dress and braided hair-do are also up there on my list of newfound obsessions. The tent dress is the most comfortable thing I have EVER owned, and has easily transitioned from a shopping bag into my wardrobe. And these braids? I get major intergalactic space-chic/three year old/Miley Cyrus vibes from the pigtail dutch braids, and I am in total love.

This weekend was quite cold, and coming from a warm blooded, “it’s never too cold to wear a crop top” kind of gal, that’s saying something. I guess I just wasn’t expecting to be wearing a sweater in September. It was perfect sweater weather, though, so I thought I would act like real people do and put on a sweater in the cold weather (and how cute is this asymmetric printed one from Wet Seal?).

Song of the day:  “Like Real People Do” by Hozier is quite possibly the most relaxing song I have ever heard. It is perfect for stress relieving and studying (and just listening to for good vibes).

Out With A POW

SPRING BREAK! It feels like I’ve been waiting all year for this vacation… Florida, California, no school, no snow? I mean, what else could I ask for? Yesterday really got me in the mood. With final exams finished, I had a lovely day off in SoHo with the gals. Rompers, sun-hats and high-rise shorts were among my favorite purchases. And, of course, I could not wait to pair these newbies with my good-ole comic socks.

One Dress Three Ways: Wetseal Crossback Dress

Screen shot 2013-06-19 at 8.37.41 PM

From the moment I tried this dress on, I knew I would be wearing it all the time. The only thing is that I can’t wear a bodycon dress out and about  all the time! I fooled around a bit and I found some more casual and unique ways to wear this crossback dress!

Number 1: Black and White and Black and White

Black and white prints are huge this summer, and mixing them together is all the rage. I paired this comfy bodycon dress underneath loose harem pants.

Number 2: Studs on Studs

This look is the most casual of the three. The denim vest and flats really dress the outfit down, but still makes it super cute!

Number 3: Backwards Beauty

This is by far my favorite of the three looks. While quickly throwing on the dress, I put it on backwards! I surprisingly fell in love with the front triangular cutout it formed which is super popular on the runways and on the streets this season!

OOTD: Stripes

Last night I went to a Sweet 16! It was so much fun to get dressed up and dance all night with my friends!

I wore a Wet Seal cross back, striped dress. A big trend this summer is black and white prints and I am a sucker for stripes, so when I saw this dress I knew I needed to have it! Also, I’m in love with anything and everything with an open back, so that made this dress even better. My favorite thing about this dress, though, is that it is super soft and super comfortable . Most body-con dresses are uncomfortable and extremely difficult to move in, but I had no problem dancing in this dress! Overall I am kind of obsessed with this dress and I know for sure I will wear it again soon! Because the colors of the dress are neutral and the dress was at a great affordable price, I could splurge on bright and fun accessories!

While relaxing this morning in front of the TV, I found myself watching the VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown. I subconcsiously listened to the music while playing around on my phone. When I heard them introduce Sara Bareilles’ new song my attention was immediately drawn to the TV. I immediately fell in love with her new song “Brave” and found myself dancing along to the catchy music video. I thought this song was perfect for the song of the day for today because in the music video, Sara wears black and white printed pants similar to mine! How perfect! On that note, I think I am developing an unhealthy obsession with printed pants…
